1. Application Requirements
To apply for the Juris Doctor (JD) program at HLS, you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s Degree (from an accredited institution)
- LSAT or GRE (either is accepted; choose one)
- Credential Assembly Service (CAS) Report from LSAC (Law School Admission Council)
- Transcripts (from all postsecondary institutions attended)
- Personal Statement
- Resume
- Two Letters of Recommendation
- Optional Statement (addendum, diversity statement, or additional info)

Harvard uses a holistic review process. Factors they consider include:

There’s no minimum GPA or test score, but successful applicants often have:

Personal Statement
A 1–2 page essay explaining:
- Why law school?
- Why Harvard?
- Personal background, experiences, values
Optional Addenda
- Diversity Statement: How your background contributes to the HLS community
- Addendum: To explain anything unusual (e.g., low GPA, gap in education)
How to Apply
Applications are submitted online via LSAC.org. Steps:
- Create an LSAC account
- Register and take the LSAT or GRE
- Submit transcripts and letters through CAS
- Complete the HLS application form
- Upload required documents and pay the fee (or request a fee waiver)
Tuition & Financial Aid
- Tuition (2024–25): ~$75,000/year
- Total Cost of Attendance: ~$110,000/year (including living expenses)
- Financial Aid: Need-based aid is available. HLS does not offer merit-based scholarships.
- HLS has a Low-Income Protection Plan (LIPP) for alumni in public interest roles.
